😌 New to HBOT? Here’s What to Expect
We understand that trying something new—especially a medical-grade therapy—can feel intimidating. At Holistic Alaska, we’re here to make your first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) session relaxing, safe, and comfortable from start to finish.
This post walks you through the entire 80-minute experience inside our state-of-the-art hyperbaric chamber, so you know exactly what to expect.
🛋️ Step 1: Welcome & Setup
When you arrive, our certified technician will greet you and walk you through a quick safety and comfort briefing.
✅ You’ll fill out or confirm any necessary medical forms
✅ We’ll check your blood pressure and review your doctor’s order
✅ You’ll remove shoes and anything with batteries, oils, or flammable material
✅ You’ll be offered water and shown how to use the chamber’s call button
💡 Tip: Wear breathable cotton clothing. No lotions, fragrances, or jewelry, please.
⏳ Step 2: Entering the Chamber
Our hyperbaric chamber is spacious and wheelchair-accessible, with two reclining chairs (and room for a third if needed). Once you’re seated:
-
We’ll help you put on your oxygen mask
-
You can choose a show or calming visuals on the Samsung TV
-
You’ll feel the door seal, and the pressure will begin to rise—like takeoff in an airplane
📈 Step 3: Pressurization Phase (First 10 Minutes)
This is called the “descent.” The air pressure inside the chamber increases gradually to the prescribed level (typically 2.0 ATA).
You might feel:
-
Popping or fullness in your ears
-
Gentle vibration in the air
-
A cooling breeze from the built-in AC
🎧 Swallow, yawn, or gently move your jaw to relieve any ear pressure.
🌬️ Step 4: Oxygen Therapy Intervals
During the session, you’ll breathe 100% medical-grade oxygen through your mask in three pressurized cycles:
-
1.3 ATA – 15 min oxygen / 5 min room air
-
1.6 ATA – 15 min oxygen / 5 min room air
-
2.0 ATA – Final oxygen interval to stimulate stem cell production and neurogenesis
This method follows the Israeli Protocol by Dr. Shai Efrati—renowned for its ability to boost brain repair and cellular healing.
🎥 Step 5: Relax & Enjoy the Session
While your body does the deep work, you can relax:
-
🛋️ Recline in a power-adjustable seat
-
🎬 Watch a calming movie or listen to music
-
🌌 Enjoy the fiber-optic starlight headliner above you
-
❄️ Use built-in air conditioning to stay cool
🛑 Step 6: Gradual Decompression (Final 10 Minutes)
We gently lower the pressure inside the chamber back to normal. This phase is called the “ascent.”
✅ You may feel ear pressure again briefly—just yawn or swallow
✅ Our technician monitors you through the entire decompression
✅ You’ll leave feeling refreshed, calm, and clear-headed
🧘 Aftercare: What to Expect
After your first session:
-
💤 You may feel deeply relaxed or energized
-
🧠 Many clients report improved mental clarity and focus
-
🚫 Avoid strenuous activity or flying for 24–72 hours post-session
-
💧 Hydrate well and allow your body to integrate the oxygen boost
Most clients begin to notice cumulative benefits after 5–10 sessions, with full protocols ranging from 20–40 sessions depending on your goals.
